According to court documents obtained by the outlet, Paul Kanin, who previously controlled the trust, says Nick’s claims about not receiving money from his parents’ trust are incorrect, as he previously approved $348K in payments for Nick. Jackson ultimately was forced to drop the case, but Nick has been trying to rehire him; however, claims he doesn’t have the money to do so.

Nick was arrested and charged with the murder of his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, who were killed on December 14, 2025. Nick’s brother Jake gave his first sit-down interview that aired Thursday, Aug. 27, on Good Morning America in which he recalled when he learned of his parents’ passing.
Jake said he received a call from his sister, who “told me our dad was dead and then she said, ‘I can’t find mom.’” He added that he “immediately went into shock.”
“[Nick]’s in jail. It’s like, I physically lost my parents, and then Nick was arrested. Now it’s just me and Romy, and we have to navigate this by ourselves essentially,” Jake added. “For me, it manifests into anger. It manifests into rage, into how unfair this was, how I didn’t get a say in what happened. I didn’t get to stop it from happening. I had no choice in the matter. I just have to accept the reality of it. And to me, that is just one of the most infuriating parts of all of this.”
However, he declined to go into further detail about his brother.
“I’ll never understand. I don’t care how it’s explained to me. I don’t care what facts come out. I will never understand why this happened,” Jake stated. “My parents had unconditional love for all three of us. I can tell you they never stopped wanting to help him. They never stopped helping him.”
