LOS ANGELES — Bills Mafia is celebrating the first overtime win of Josh Allen’s career. The Bills beat the Rams in Los Angeles, 37-34, in a back-and-forth offensive battle, with a 45-yard kick from Tyler Bass sealing the win.
The game started slow, but the Bills and Rams traded punches in the third and fourth quarters, leading to six straight touchdown drives between the two high-powered offenses. Allen totaled 219 passing yards, 121 rushing yards, and two total touchdowns, one off a pass and another off a tush push. The superstar quarterback said he struggled at times during the first half, but finally found his rhythm in the second half thanks to his teammates.
DRIVE-BY-DRIVE RECAP: Buffalo Bills SHOCK Los Angeles Rams, 37-34
“I felt like in that second half I got into a rhythm. Guys made some plays. Khalil on that first catch in overtime, it’s awesome stuff. Got to be better in the pass game. We know that. We understand that, but we’ll take a win no matter what,” he said.
Even after regulation ended 34-34, the craziness continued. The Bills started with the ball in overtime, but James Cook fumbled near the red zone, and the Rams offense took over. The Bills got another chance after blocking the Rams’ 48-yard field goal attempt. In the end, Allen picked up two straight runs, 19 and 13 yards, giving Bass a manageable kick for the win. Bills head coach Joe Brady said he’s proud of the team for continuing to fight even after the fumble in overtime.
“I’m just proud of the resiliency of the guys. We watch situations across the NFL every week, and until that clock hits zero, just keep playing, just keep putting the ball down,” he said. “And that overtime kind of showed the type of character who our team is, right? Obviously you don’t want to fumble, and that can’t happen. And but we just keep playing, man, and make them earn everything.”
Despite Cook having two fumbles, the one in overtime and another in the third quarter, he picked up 11 yards on the ground and scored twice. Bills receiver Khalil Shakir led the way through the air with three catches for 80 yards, including a 57-yard gain in overtime.
