“As a family company, Wegmans makes decisions for the long-term benefit of its people, customers, and communities. Today, the company announced the difficult decision to close Amore Restaurant, located at its East Avenue store, at the end of business on Saturday, October 31.
The one-of-a-kind restaurant opened in 2013 and has served as an incredible innovation space, helping Wegmans develop the best-tasting Italian foods and flavors. Amore has inspired many Wegmans Brand Amore items that customers love and can purchase across all Wegmans stores.
Wegmans is proud of Restaurant Chef Pasquale Sorrentino, who has brought exceptional Italian foods to life, and the entire Amore team, who have created an incredible dining experience for customers.
After exploring a range of options to create a vibrant and engaging restaurant experience for employees and customers, Wegmans found that no amount of marketing, special events, or other investments were enough to attract the customer traffic needed for long-term success at this location with limited restaurant parking.
Wegmans’ people are, and always will be, its first priority. The company’s goal is to retain every Amore employee, and Wegmans will work closely with each person to help transition them to their next role within the company.
As Wegmans moves forward, the spirit of Amore will continue through recipe development, products, and hospitality standards across its stores and brand. The company will continue to provide employees with meaningful work and opportunities to learn and grow to be their best.”
