Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, attended a presentation on the system and its autonomous vehicles, alongside Mark Seeger, Founder and Co-CEO of Glydways, and Blake Barber, Co-CEO and Chief Technology Officer of the company.
The presentation showcased the technologies used to manage vehicle movements and monitor operations, including the system’s sensing, safety and control technologies.
Al Tayer also inspected the control centre, where he was briefed on operations management, vehicle movements along the dedicated guideway and the system’s on-demand transport capabilities. He subsequently took a 5-minute ride in a Glydways vehicle along the designated route at Bluewaters, marking the start of the trial operation.
The initiative builds on a cooperation agreement between RTA and Glydways to introduce Dubai’s first automated transit network programme of its kind. The programme aims to complement the public transport network, expand mobility options for residents and visitors, and improve connectivity to Metro stations, major attractions and key destinations across Dubai.
The Bluewaters trial is being implemented under a partnership agreement between RTA and Dubai Holding covering field-testing preparations, infrastructure and operational support.
The 4-week trial will enable RTA and its partners to assess the system’s technical and operational performance and evaluate opportunities for future expansion and deployment across the emirate.
The initiative forms part of RTA’s broader efforts to adopt future mobility technologies, strengthen integration between transport modes and develop efficient, sustainable solutions to meet Dubai’s evolving mobility needs.
