Bestselling Fantasy Franchise Being Adapted For TV 25 Years After First Publication ...Saudi Arabia

News by : (Parade) -

One of the biggest fantasy book franchises of the past 25 years is getting another shot at the screen.

Disney announced at New York Comic Con on Oct. 11 that Eoin Colfer’s bestselling “Artemis Fowl” books have been greenlit for a new animated television series that will air on Disney Channel and stream on Disney+.

The announcement comes as the first “Artemis Fowl” novel celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2026.

This time around, Colfer himself will be heavily involved. The author will serve as an executive producer on the new adaptation, which Disney says will allow the series to dig deeper into the characters and lore of the books.

“I am proud and delighted to be part of the formidable team that is putting the ‘Artemis Fowl’ animation on screen,” Colfer said in a statement. “Everyone is so talented and so positive that I feel certain the fairy world is in excellent hands.”

First published in 2001, “Artemis Fowl” follows its 13-year-old title character, a brilliant young criminal mastermind who discovers an underground civilization of technologically advanced fairies.

In the new series, Artemis sets out to capture one of those fairies and steal its magic in hopes of healing his dying mother and saving his family.

The book became the first installment in a hugely successful series that has now sold more than 35 million copies worldwide and been translated into 48 languages.

“For more than two decades, Eoin Colfer’s ‘Artemis Fowl’ books have captivated readers around the world with unforgettable characters, imaginative world-building, and gripping adventures,” Ayo Davis, president of Disney Kids & Family, said in a statement.

“Bringing this beloved franchise to life as an animated series gives us the opportunity to introduce a new generation to Artemis’ world while honoring the longtime fans who have cherished these stories for years,” Davis continued.

The animated series marks Disney’s latest attempt to bring Colfer’s fantasy world to the screen. Disney previously released a live-action Artemis Fowl movie directed by Kenneth Branagh in 2020. The film, which starred Ferdia Shaw as Artemis, was originally intended for a theatrical release before ultimately debuting on Disney+.

Joining Colfer as executive producers on the new series are Ben Juwono, whose credits include Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur and Big Hero 6: The Series, and Colleen Evanson, whose credits include DuckTales, Monsters at Work and Prep & Landing: The Snowball Protocol.

Artemis Fowl also joins a growing Disney+ animation slate that includes Phineas and Ferb and Big City Greens, along with upcoming adaptations of Kingdom Hearts and Warrior Cats.

Disney has not yet announced a premiere date or casting for the new Artemis Fowl series.
