Georgia sneaks away with a 20-17 win breaking Alabama’s undefeated streak ...Middle East

News by : (The Crimson White) -

After a potential pass interference by Georgia wasn’t called and a personal foul was called on defensive back Dijon Lee Jr. for shoving a Georgia player, No. 6 Alabama was unable to cage the Bulldogs as No. 2 Georgia snuck away with a 20-17 win in Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Prior to this game, Georgia hadn’t beat Alabama in a regular season game since 2007, the same  year star wide receiver Ryan Coleman-Williams was born.

Wide receiver Rico Scott fought for a contested catch in the end zone, but Georgia defensive back KJ Bolden pushed him out of the way without penalty. Without a pass interference called, Alabama chose to punt. Many fans have questioned the ref’s judgement on this call.

“It wasn’t no questionable calls. I got to do my best and get us into situations and into opportunities,” quarterback Keelon Russell said. “As an offensive commander, I got to do my job.”

After Georgia gained the ball back, Lee shoved a Georgia player costing the Crimson Tide 15 yards and resulting in an automatic 1st down for the Bulldogs.

“It wasn’t just one person; it was execution,” head coach Kalen DeBoer said. “We just got to execute and be better in those moments.”

After a slow start freshman running back EJ Crowell marked the turning point for the Crimson Tide with a one-yard touchdown going into the half.

With three seconds left in the second, Crowell was handed the ball. He ran to the edge after not being able to make it down the middle, and beat Georgia to the end zone to put Alabama ahead for the first time 14-10.

Coming out of the second, Georgia closed Alabama’s narrow lead with a 14 yard touchdown. Down by three, kicker Conor Talty evened out the score for the Crimson Tide off a 39 yard kick.

In Georgia and Alabama’s last meeting in the SEC Championship last season, the Crimson Tide pulled away with -3 rushing yards.

After almost a complete reboot of the defensive line in the off season, Alabama was able to come out with 161 rushing yards, a much needed improvement.

Going into the fourth tied, Alabama got the ball three different times, but was unable to execute on any of these chances.

“We’ve got a lot of competitive guys in our locker room and a lot of guys that love this team, love this game,” Keon Sabb said. “Regardless of what happened tonight, we obviously can go to work on Tuesday with fire up under our asses.”

The Crimson Tide will travel to Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tennessee next weekend to play the Volunteers. Kick off is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CT on ABC.
