ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Hurricane Isaias made landfall over the Florida panhandle last night as a category 2 hurricane, bringing heavy rain, strong winds, and impactful storm surge, but has since downgrade to a post tropical cyclone. Nevertheless, it will continue to bring dangerous weather to parts of the south today, then as it continues to weaken it will move up the Ohio River valley, eventually bringing some rain and wind to Western New York tomorrow. But overall impacts for us will not be great, so we’ll stick to Green on the Threat Tracker.
Today started off cool in the upper 30s/low 40s, with a pretty sunrise courtesy of upper level clouds from Isaias. We’ll see temps climb to very mild status with highs near 70 this afternoon… Then possibly a beautiful sunset. Tonight won’t be as cool with lows in the mid 50s.
There is some uncertainty about the arrival time of rain tomorrow, with some models suggesting it will get here around 6am and others suggesting not until around 10am. Either way, it will enter the region from south to north, and be widespread but light to moderate in intensity through the rest of the day. Highs will be in the low 60s, and winds down south over the Chataqua Ridge, Southern Tier, and Southern Finger Lakes will gust up to 30 MPH. A few more showers are likely overnight.
Monday stays mostly cloudy but mild temps return with highs near 70 once more. Our next chance for showers is on Tuesday, followed by drier but cooler weather Wednesday and Thursday.
