Actress Kristin Kreuk is getting candid about the attention she received after being cast as Clark Kent’s (Tom Welling) high school love interest, Lana Lang, on Smallville.
Kreuk discussed her time on the WB series, which had a 10-season run, during an October 2026 episode of her Smallville castmate, Michael Rosenbaum‘s podcast, Inside of You, in celebration of the show’s 25th anniversary. When Rosenbaum, who played Lex Luthor, mentioned that Kreuk “didn’t like all the attention and stardom” from Smallville, she replied, “God no.”
Kreuk then noted that she was just 19 when she got the role of Lana.
“I was very shy, and it wasn’t like a pretend thing. I was a very thoughtful introverted person. I would go to my trailer always and feel all these things,” said Kreuk during the interview.
She went on to say that she missed her “privacy” and “space” while she was starring on Smallville, which ended in 2011.
“It was gone. And I had no idea how to function inside that. It took me a really long time, years and years and years to come to terms with it,” said the Murder in a Small Town star.
She clarified that she’s more comfortable around fans, now that she’s less in the spotlight.
“It doesn’t feel threatening. It doesn’t feel scary. I feel like I can humanize everybody. Not everybody’s a threat. They’re coming to me sharing something they love,” said Kreuk.
Kreuk made similar comments about her “complex relationship with Smallville” in a 2024 interview with The Movie Podcast. She explained that she “was really young” while filming the series and “didn’t know how to speak [her] mind.”
“I had no experience, so there was like a lot of complexity to how I dealt with that show. And I had a lot of fear around the success of it,” said Kreuk in the 2024 interview.
She then said going to fan conventions “has helped [her] redefine [her] relationship to the show,” as she’s now able to view Smallville “through the eyes of people whose lives it impacted in a positive way.”
