ESPN NFL Draft analyst breaks down strengths, weaknesses for Trinidad Chambliss ...Middle East

News by : (SATURDAY DOWN SOUTH) -

ESPN NFL Draft analyst Jordan Reid broke down his rankings of the top 15 quarterbacks for next spring’s NFL Draft, and not surprisingly there was an SEC star signal-caller near the very top of his list that was revealed on Friday morning.

It was a dynamic player who has taken over Oxford the past couple years and who could take over for a very fortunate NFL team in 2027. It’s Trinidad Chambliss of Ole Miss, and Reid had Chambliss as his No. 3 QB among the quarterbacks who could be available to the NFL for next fall.

So, who did Reid rank ahead of Chambliss? That would be Oklahoma State‘s Drew Mestemaker at No. 1 and Miami‘s Darian Mensah at No. 2. Right below that dynamic duo on Reid’s list of potential star NFL quarterbacks came Chambliss, who led the Rebels to within 2 games of a national championship last season and who has helped Ole Miss to a No. 9 ranking this year with another College Football Playoff run as a possibility.

Chambliss has put on a show so far in 2026, racking up 1,222 yards passing with 8 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. He has a 70.8 completion percentage, a QBR of 82.4, good for 15th in the country, and he’s shown his usual ability to hurt defenses with his legs, rushing for 4 TDs so far this year.

Reid broke down each quarterback on his top 15 list with “where he excels” and “where he needs work.” Here is what Reid wrote in part about Chambliss, first with where the 6-foot, 205-pounder excels:

Chambliss transitioned from Division II Ferris State to the SEC seamlessly in 2025. The former partial-scholarship QB is an electrifying playmaker with his arm and mobility. He took over the starting spot during the third game last season and hasn’t looked back.

But what about where Chambliss needs work? Here was some of what Reid wrote on that:

Chambliss’ size — he officially measured in at 5-foot-11 7/8, 208 pounds for scouts in the spring — could concern some teams. Drew Brees, Russell Wilson, Kyler Murray, Baker Mayfield and Bryce Young are undersized passers who have had NFL success, but Chambliss’ stature will be discussed.

Long before he’s taken by some NFL team in next spring’s draft, Chambliss will be front and center on Saturday afternoon when he leads the 9th-ranked Rebels into Nashville to face Vanderbilt (3:30 p.m. ET, ESPN). Here is what the Kalshi market is currently saying about the chances that Chambliss has of helping Ole Miss get a road SEC win to improve to 4-1 on the season:
