BUFFALO, N.Y. — Jury selection is set to begin on Tuesday in the federal death penalty trial of Payton Gendron, who pleaded guilty on state charges to carrying out the white supremacy-motivated mass shooting at the Buffalo Tops.
Gendron, who was sentenced to life in prison without parole for the May 2022 shooting, is being held at the Livingston County Jail. The shooting claimed the lives of 10 people, all of whom were Black, at the supermarket.

Investigators say Gendron wrote a manifesto containing white supremacist conspiracy theories before carrying out the shooting. As News10NBC has covered, an internet post allegedly tied to Gendron pinpoints a neighborhood in Rochester as his second target.
