With her family at her bedside, Mrs. Christine Allen Woodard of Knoxville and a longtime Jackson Avenue resident in Carthage and longtime business woman, departed her earthly journey that God had so richly blessed her with for 97 years, to enter the eternal kingdom to join her family members that had gone on before. She was pronounced deceased at 1:42 a.m. E.S.T. Monday morning October 5, 2026 at the Legacy Park Health Care on Middlebrook Pike in Knoxville.

Her pastor, Eld. Anthony Dixon and Eld. Stephen Brooks, a longtime friend of the family, officiated at the Wednesday afternoon October 7th funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Following the 1 p.m. services burial was beside her husband of sixty-two years in the Garden of Gethsemane at the Smith County Memorial Gardens.

The Woodard family will receive friends at Sanderson in Carthage only on Wednesday October 7th from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. services.

She was the only daughter of two children born to the late Charlie Herman Allen who died at the age of 51 on May 26, 1949 and Lila Bell Terry Allen who died at the age of 86 on November 3, 1981 and was born Christine Angielene Allen on May 14, 1929 in the Dixon Springs Community.

Her only sibling, a brother, Garrett Lee Allen preceded her in death on August 25, 2011 at the age of 91.

As a 1947 graduate of Smith County High School, she was the last survivor of her thirty-eight class member graduates to die. The last two most recent class member deaths in her class were W. G. Birdwell Jr. and A. B. McCall, both of Carthage.

While at Smith County High she majored in home economics all four years, was a member of the commercial club in ‘46 & ’47 and served as secretary-treasurer of the commercial club in ’47. She was a member of the Beta Club and served as club reporter her senior year.

On May 14, 1949, she was united in marriage to Dixon Springs Community native, Harry T. Woodard. The ceremony was solemnized in Franklin, Kentucky. He preceded her in death on June 21, 2011 at the age of 82.

The Woodards began operation of Woodard’s Mobil Service at the East end of the Cordell Hull Bridge in August of 1952 and operated the successful business until retiring and selling to the late Wendell Bennett on April 25, 1978.

The service station was also the bus station for Trailways Bus Lines and Mrs. Christine operated the ticket counter. Many a Smith County young man received his ticket to be examined for the military from Mrs. Christine.

She was saved in 1958 and was baptized into the full fellowship of the North Carthage Missionary Baptist where she remained a member.

She was a former member of the Carthage Business and Profession Women’s organization.

Surviving are her two daughters, Jane Woodard Hall and husband Jerry of Knoxville, Cara Woodard Richardson and husband Gary also of Knoxville; three granddaughters, Kimberly Richarson, Kristen Hall Wright, and Amy Hall McMahon and husband Kevin, all of Knoxville; three great-grandchildren, Keegan and Madelyn McMahon, Nolan Wright all of Knoxville.
