A woman reported to be in distress on the ground on the University of Illinois campus has died, officials said Tuesday.
U of I police said officers responded around 3 a.m. to the 1000 block of Dorner Drive in Urbana “after a passerby called 911 to report that a woman was lying on the ground in distress.”
“Officers requested medical assistance, and the woman was transported to a local hospital where she later died,” police said in a release.
Police said a preliminary investigation did not indicate foul play was involved and “there is no ongoing threat to the campus community.”
“Out of respect for this individual and their family, we will not be releasing any further details or identifying information,” police said.
The death comes just after another body was found on the campus near the Alma Mater statue.
There, 29-year-old Alex Rodriguez was found dead late last month. He had no known affiliation with the university, police said, and his death was believed to be “accidental.”
Investigations remained ongoing in both cases.
