Days after the death of 37-year-old TikTok star Brooke Eby was announced, Today co-host Savannah Guthrie paused to remember the woman she called a friend and a courageous former guest.
View this post on Instagram“Our friend Brooke Eby passed away on October 1 after waging a remarkable battle against ALS,” Guthrie said on Today. She noted that Eby bore the devastating diagnosis, which came when she was just 33, in a remarkable way.
“She did it with courage, openness and humor,” Guthrie continued, adding that Eby was determined to share every part of her journey. Her social media videos were often hilarious and built a devoted following of more than 318,000 on TikTok.
Guthrie recalled meeting Eby when she first appeared on the show in 2023, then played a clip from that visit. In it, Eby declared that “levity is my superpower.” She explained that humor was how she was bringing her story to the world, and that she hoped to make sure ALS was heard.
“Even as her body began to fail her, she kept up her fight, kept posting — yes, with that trademark humor and spirit,” Guthrie added. “She also created ALStogether, a community for others living with the disease.”
Eby first noticed symptoms at 29. In a “Get Ready With Me” TikTok video, she described feeling a “really strange tightness in my calf” and realizing she was walking “really, really slowly.” Even though her sister was a doctor, she recalled that it took four years to get a diagnosis.

By meeting her illness with honesty and laughter, she gave a platform to a disease many people don’t understand, and built a community where others facing ALS could feel less alone. Her openness, humor, and determination will continue to inspire everyone who followed her story.
