Deckhand Joe Bradley knew Luke Brumer’s Below Deck Mediterranean return would be messy, but he couldn’t have predicted it would end with a generously filled glass of red wine all over Luke’s white sweater.
After an extremely successful charter season, which ended with a whopping $35,000 tip and brought the crew’s total earnings to $253,518 for the season, the crew headed out for a night on the town. After enjoying dinner together, they also got to spend time with Captain Sandy Yawn and her wife, Leah.
But there was plenty of drama bubbling beneath the surface.
After deckhand Cooper Dawson and stew Katrina “Kat” Johnston planned to travel together after the season, he began backing away from their secretly-not-so-secret romance. Much to Kat’s surprise, Cooper revealed that he had now invited Joe to travel with them.
Meanwhile, after a highly contentious season, Joe and bosun Nathan Gallagher tried to put their animosity behind them, but they couldn’t seem to get out of their own way.
The most explosive moment of the finale, however, came when Luke showed up at the bar in disguise to surprise Chef Joy Lefaucheur. Unsurprisingly, once Genevieve “Gen” Lillie realized Luke was there, she began to spiral, clearly still not over the fact that he chose Joy over her.
“I never want to see that man in my f—king life again, and that man f—king shows up,” Gen told the crew as she watched Joy and Luke snuggling at the bar.
In a confessional, Gen said she “hates” Luke and that “clearly he has no respect.” As she continued complaining to the crew about Luke’s presence, everyone seemed to brace themselves for what Gen might do next.
Gen simply ordered a glass of red wine, calmly walked over to where Luke and Joy were sitting and threw the wine all over Luke, staining his white sweater.
“Go f—k yourself,” she said before walking away.
Despite his grand entrance to surprise Joy, Luke decided to leave. Joy, meanwhile, feeling bad for Gen, went to comfort her.
“Even if I don’t like you, I don’t want to see you crying,” Joy said about Gen in a confessional.
Thankfully, once Luke left, the situation calmed down—at least that situation did.
Elsewhere, Kat saw Cooper openly flirting with another woman at the bar, pushing her over the edge. As she sobbed in the van on the way home, she realized Cooper had played her and decided she’d had enough. Joy called Cooper a “f—king clown” for his behavior, while Kat was left to process the situation on her own.
Meanwhile, Joe and Nathan seemingly tried to make amends in the crew mess, but when Joe told Nathan, “You’re a father… it would be so much easier if you weren’t,” it set Nathan off.
“Do not disrespect my family,” Nathan responded.
As their argument escalated and appeared to be on the verge of becoming physical, Chief Stew Aesha Scott stepped in after Nathan walked off the boat. She reminded Joe that he hadn’t been kind to Nathan’s girlfriend, Gael Cameron, in previous seasons and that he needed to take responsibility for his actions.
“When they first got together, you hated her straight away,” Aesha told Joe about Gael, insisting, “You were jealous.”
Once Aesha stood firm and told Joe he needed to take responsibility for the animosity, he broke down. But the following day, Joe ultimately took ownership of his behavior.
“If I’m being completely honest, maybe there is some truth to what Aesha’s saying,” Joe admitted in a confessional. “Three years ago, Nathan and me were like two peas in a pod, and Nathan was getting with Gael. It just hurt a little bit.”
And while this confession could have meant healing for the former friends, Joe told Parade he “wouldn’t share a dinner table” with Nathan.
