“We ran a summer camp for youngsters for 27 years on our property. And I’m very, very, very passionate about that and very proud of that because it’s not something that I set out to do,” said Turman.
He then noted that Camp Gid-D-Up was “built from scratch as a promise to Mrs. Coretta Scott King.”
“To be a part, and connected to [the Kings] is something that I never would have imagined you know, so it’s much bigger than the 60-foot-Glynn that you see on the screen,” said the actor. “Although we’re in the shadows with our foundation and just kind of quietly doing a mom and pop sort of contribution to what we think that the community could use. So, yes, that’s something I hope that carries on in name and carries on, indeed, in some way that because the foundation continues to help youngsters with their dreams.”
He also clarified that he hopes to be remembered for his acting abilities.
“It’d be great too for people to, in another 50 years, sit at home or in the theater with a bag of popcorn and watch some of my work,” said the Emmy winner during the August 2026 interview.
