The Strokes Return to New York City for Sold-Out 40,000-Fan Concert ...Saudi Arabia

News by : (Parade) -

The Strokes just gave New York City a homecoming to remember.

The New York rockers returned to their hometown on Oct. 2 for a massive sold-out show at Flushing Meadows Corona Park, where approximately 40,000 fans gathered to see the band headline its first New York City concert since 2023.

The concert featured a stacked lineup, with Beach House, TV on the Radio and Fcukers joining The Strokes for the special hometown event.

The band delivered a career-spanning set featuring hits and fan favorites from throughout its acclaimed catalog before closing the night with “Ode to the Mets,” a particularly fitting choice given the concert’s location just steps from Citi Field. The Strokes also paid tribute to another beloved New York band, covering Blonde Redhead’s “This Is Not.”

But the music wasn’t the only surprise of the night.

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made surprise appearances to introduce The Strokes before their headlining set. Sanders, 85, praised the band for its support of economic justice, opposition to racism and belief that health care is a human right.

Later in the performance, labor organizer and Amazon Labor Union co-founder Chris Smalls and comedian and political commentator Lee Camp also joined the band onstage.

The day’s programming began with frontman Julian Casablancas moderating an “S.O.S. – Earth Is A Mess” live event featuring Smalls, 38, Camp, 46, and political strategist and author Maya Rupert.

The Strokes’ New York homecoming comes as the band continues its completely sold-out European tour. The next leg begins with two nights at London’s O2 before stops in Amsterdam, Paris, Berlin and other cities.

The tour supports the band’s latest album, Reality Awaits, its first studio album in six years. The record was produced by Rick Rubin, who previously worked with the band on 2020’s The New Abnormal.
