Ed Sheeran has broken his silence after his estranged cousin, Jethro Sheeran, made remarks about him amid his “Free Palestine” controversy with Macklemore.
“You might have seen [my relative] recently on social media,” Ed told the audience during his Loop Tour stop at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Saturday, October 3, per a social media video. He went on to say that he hadn’t “spoken” to his cousin “in a very long time.”
On Thursday, September 17, Jethro lashed out at Ed on Instagram amid his controversy with Macklemore, calling him “selfish” and “malicious.”
“I’m ashamed of my cousin Ed he’s done,” Jethro wrote in part. “Finally the world and all his fans see through him. He’s not a good person, I don’t like his music so I can’t say he’s even a good artist.”

Jethro also alleged that Ed was the one who decided to drop Macklemore, despite the rapper previously claiming that stadium owners pressured the singer to do so.
“In my opinion he’s a bad human. Just my opinion from my experiences,” Jethro continued. “He puts out [a] fake narrative that’s calculated just to keep everyone happy so he can do big private gigs and keep brand deals etc. I agree with all the comments he’s got and [the] bad press.”
View this post on InstagramThe controversy against Ed first sparked when Macklemore revealed he was removed from the remainder of the Loop Tour after he shouted “Free Palestine” during the New Jersey show at MetLife Stadium.
During his September 19 concert at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Ed fought back tears as he addressed 50,000 concertgoers onstage.
“The last week of my life has been one of the worst weeks of my life,” the singer shared. “I really didn’t know whether this tour would be carrying on. I really didn’t know whether I’d even be getting on stage again, whether I even wanted to be an artist at all. In these situations, you really find out who your friends are, and it’s been a weird week.”
