Each week, throughout the college football season, fans, alumni, media and the teams themselves look to the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll to see who is rising and moving within the national rankings. The new poll follows Week 4 games.
The Jackrabbits are hoppin’.
South Dakota State has claimed the No. 1 ranking in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll, fresh off its second ranked win of the season and coupled with the end of defending national champion Montana State’s 19-game winning streak.
The Jackrabbits (5-1), who have lost only to Big Ten member Northwestern, powered past then-No. 10 Illinois State 31-14 in a performance coach Dan Jackson said “was our brand, it was our identity.” They’re now No. 1 for the 30th time since the middle of the 2022 season but for the first time since Oct. 17, 2024.
Montana State’s injury-plagued squad surrendered a touchdown and two-point conversion to Idaho with 0:00 on the clock, falling 35-34. The Bobcats have tumbled from the top spot in the national media rankings to sixth. Montana, Tarleton State, North Dakota and Lehigh round out the Top 5 behind SDSU.
The Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll is released each Monday during the regular season and one day after the FCS championship game (scheduled for Jan. 11 in Nashville, Tennessee). A first-place vote is worth 25 points, a second-place vote 24 points, all the way down to one point for a 25th-place vote.
