ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A local fundraiser brought together about 250 people to support Aurora House, which provides free care to clients without any government funding.
Aurora House has offered this care since 2010, supporting residents in their final weeks and months of life.
Volunteers spent weeks organizing the event and collecting 157 baskets, including 17 VIP baskets worth up to $1,000 each. Organizers said they hope to raise up to $20,000 to keep the house running.
There were complimentary mimosas and more than 100 raffle baskets. Second Look Boutique hosted a fashion show and pop-up shop during the event.
“Basically, no one ever pays a cent to come to Aurora House, and we are not funded by the government or any agency. It’s 100% non-profit, so it’s based on donations from people, events like this, that we get our money to keep the house going, so it’s possible. It’s just a wonderful thing,” said Kathleen Reger, board member.

Aurora House is in its 16th year, and organizers said the annual event is crucial to providing care at no cost to families.
