ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Walk to End Alzheimer’s, an annual fundraiser for Alzheimer’s research and support programs, took place on Saturday at ESL Ballpark. Over 1,330 people participated.
The goal was to raise $400,000 and raise overall awareness. As of 2:30 p.m., $360,495 had been raised.
The walk went along State Street, Commercial Street, and Mill Street.
Organizers say the fundraiser helps to ensure that the Alzheimer’s Association’s programs are free for all who need them. Check-in began at 9 a.m., and opening ceremonies began at 10 a.m. The walk started at 10:15 a.m. You can donate and learn more by clicking here.
“We are bringing hope to this community because Alzheimer’s research is just going leaps and bounds, and, you know, for the first time I would say in 25 years, the hope is just huge out there in what we can do today compared to what we could do 25 years ago when they started in this,” said Jeanette Cooper, resident relations director for Crimson Ridge Meadows.
She said the annual fundraiser has bounced back and is doing better than ever before.
More than 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease.
