Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Liam Chew from Kelowna, British Columbia, has announced his verbal commitment to the admission process* at Princeton University for 2027-28. He told SwimSwam:
“I am delighted to announce my verbal commitment to the admissions process to further my athletic and academic career at Princeton University! I would like to thank my family, friends, and coaches for helping me throughout the years. Thank you to Coach Matt for this incredible opportunity. Go Tigers! ”
Chew swims with Kelowna Aquajets under head coach Marc Tremblay and assistant coach Stefan Pripoae. He specializes in IM and breaststroke. Outside of his own training, he coaches junior swimmers aged 8-10.
Chew is coming off a strong long-course season in which he represented Team Canada at the 2026 Junior Pan Pacific Championships. There, he made the ‘A’ finals in 3 individual events, placing 8th in the 400 IM (4:25.84), 9th in the 200 IM (2:04.25), and 9th in the 200 breast (2:17.29). All three times were personal bests. He also finaled in the 200 back (17th, 2:07.51) and swam the 100 back in prelims (23rd place, 58.69).
Earlier in the summer, Chew earned his spot on the Junior Pan Pacs team with a 4:26.94 first-place junior finish in the 400 IM at Canadian Trials. At the same meet, he was 4th in the 200 IM (2:04.98, a then-PB) and 7th in the 200 breast (2:21.18, a then-PB), 5th in the 100 breast (1:04.51, PB), and 10th in the 100 back (58.55, PB).
At the 2025 Canada Games, he won both the 200 IM and 400 IM, and he took the 14-15 boys 200 back title at 2024 Junior Nationals.
Chew has dropped a ton of time in his main events over the past year: -6.2 seconds in the 400 IM, -2.5 in the 200 IM, -7.3 in the 200 breast, -2.4 in the 100 breast, -.3 in the 200 back, and -.9 in the 100 back.
Best LCM times (converted):
400 IM – 4:25.84 (3:53.72) 200 IM – 2:04.25 (1:49.05) 200 breast – 2:17.29 (2:00.08) 100 breast – 1:04.51 (56.31) 200 back – 2:06.13 (1:46.18) 100 back – 58.55 (48.96)Chew will join the Tigers’ class of 2031 with swimmers Cade Vieler, Jack Cunningham, Jonny Palamar, Jose Rodriguez, and Kannen Crossland, and diver Max Van Stone. His converted times would already have scored at 2026 Ivy League Men’s Championships in the ‘C’ finals of the 400 IM, 100/200 breast, and 200 back.
*Note: A verbal commitment between an Ivy League coach and a prospective student-athlete is not an offer of admission, as only the Admission Office has that authority. The coach can only commit his or her support in the admission process. Ivy League Admission Offices do not issue “Likely Letters” before October 1 of the prospective student-athlete’s senior year of high school. The Likely Letter, while issued after an initial read of the student’s application, is not an offer of admission to the university.
