Lyell and Sara Perry of Gustavus celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on Aug. 27, 2026, playing knock poker and eating roasted peanuts.
Lyell Perry and the former Sara Davis were married Aug. 27, 1956, by the Rev. Robert H. Taylor at Howland Community Church.
They had five children: Lyell Evan (deceased), Lorein Margretta, Martha Ann, Daniel Bryan and Charles Patrick; 20 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.
Lyell and Sara were graduates of the class of 1956 from Howland High School. They will be celebrating with their classmates their 70th class reunion on Oct. 9, 2026, at Giorgio’s in Niles.
Lyell retired as a postmaster after 32 years and then drove a school bus for 15 years.
Sara retired from teaching after 35 years, where she touched over 700 young lives. Two of their most satisfying years were spent on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation of the Oglala Lakota Sioux in Oglala, South Dakota, where Sara taught second grade and Lyell drove a school bus for Loneman School.
