ROCHESTER, N.Y. — October is National Pedestrian Safety Month and Monroe County is focusing on making streets safer.
The county hosted a “Safe Street Together” event Thursday at Genesee Valley Park where people could meet with traffic safety experts and talk about their concerns.
“Our goal today though is kind of to bridge gaps as well. Not to just give the information to the kids, but to also bring awareness to drivers that really anyone could be a pedestrian ,” said Lindsay Tomidy, STOP-DWI coordinator for Monroe County.
County officials said in 2024, 11 pedestrians were killed and 305 were hurt within the county.
