Prince William Honors Late Podcaster at Fundraiser  ...Saudi Arabia

News by : (Parade) -

Dame Deborah James always said she wanted life to be a party, and on what would have been her 45th birthday, Prince William helped make sure her celebration continued.

The Prince of Wales surprised guests at the first-ever Rebel Ball in London on Thursday, Oct. 1, appearing in a video message to celebrate the woman widely known as “Bowelbabe.” The gala benefited the Bowelbabe Fund for Cancer Research UK, the cause James dedicated her final months to before she died in 2022.

“Tonight would have been Deborah’s 45th birthday and I know she would have wanted everyone dancing, celebrating and making memories,” William told the room, calling her “incomparable.”

James brought honesty and humor to the hardest parts of her cancer journey. On her podcast, You, Me and the Big C, she spoke openly about treatment, often in sequins and always with a laugh. She called her outlook “rebellious hope,” a phrase William returned to as he remembered her.

When James entered hospice care at home, she launched the Bowelbabe Fund with a goal of raising £250,000 for cancer research and awareness. The campaign ultimately raised millions. That same spring, William visited James at home to present her with her damehood in person, sharing tea and champagne with her family.

William’s tribute also comes after a deeply personal period for his own family. His father, King Charles III, and his wife, Catherine, Princess of Wales, both publicly announced cancer diagnoses in 2024. Catherine later announced that she was in remission in January 2025.

True to James’ spirit, the night was filled with music and celebration. Sophie Ellis-Bextor and the West End cast of Disco Inferno performed for guests, while James’ children, Hugo and Eloise, spoke about what “rebellious hope” means to them now.

Her husband, Sebastien Bowen, said the evening captured James’ energy, courage and gift for bringing people together, according to HELLO!. The event also raised approximately $420,000 (£316,000) for Cancer Research UK and the Bowelbabe Fund, continuing the work James began before her death.
