Community shares thoughts with traffic safety experts at Genesee Valley Park event

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Monroe County is marking National Pedestrian Safety Month by hearing from the public about their traffic safety concerns.

The county hosted a “Safe Streets Together” event at Genesee Valley Park on Thursday, where residents met with traffic safety experts and shared their concerns. Lindsay Tomidy, Monroe County STOP-DWI coordinator, said the event aimed to bridge gaps by raising awareness among both children and drivers.

“Our goal today, though, is kind of to bridge gaps as well, not to just give the information to the kids, but to also bring awareness to drivers that really anyone could be a pedestrian. If you park your car and walk across the street to go into work, you’re a pedestrian,” Tomidy said.

The Office of Traffic Safety planned to attend more than 15 community events throughout the month, including a resource fair at Monroe Community College on Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. Here’s a list of other events that the office will be at:
