ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Americans will kick off their 71st season at home on Friday night. The Amerks will take on the defending Calder Cup champions, Toronto Marlies, at the Blue Cross Arena.
The puck drops at 7:05 p.m., and you can get tickets here. Before then, there will be a block party on Broad Street starting at 4 p.m. to celebrate the new season. Here’s what to know:
Details on the block party
The celebration will feature food and drinks, a bounce house, face painting, games, a photo booth, and music from a DJ. In addition, Amerks players will make a special red-carpet appearance at 4:45 p.m. to meet with fans ahead of the game. Broad Street will be closed from Exchange Boulevard to South Avenue starting early Friday afternoon for the block party.
There will also be a pregame happy hour. Fans 21 and older can get 12-ounce can beer specials for $5 at the block party and at the Genesee Brew House within the Blue Cross Arena until puck drop.
Details on the game
The Amerks will wear jerseys on Friday night that commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States. Griffin Della Penna, team broadcaster, said the jerseys will be off to support the Seneca Park Zoo. You can take part in the jersey auction here.
“This is in collaboration with the Seneca Park Zoo. So they are helping sponsor the home opener for us this year. And all of the proceeds that come after these jerseys go up for auction will go to the zoo. So the auction actually starts Saturday morning at 10 a.m. and will go on for an entire week,” Penna said.
The first 5,000 fans at the arena will get a free magnet schedule for the 2026 to 2027 season. Last season, the Amerks made it into the North Division first-round playoffs, but fell to the Marlies.
More of the Amerks schedule
After the game, the Amerks will hit the road and play against the Senators in Belleville on Sunday. All 32 teams in the AHL will play 36 home games and 36 away games.
For the 11th straight year, the Amerks will play all 72 of their games against Eastern Conference teams, including 54 against their North Division rivals. You can see the full schedule here.
