US streaming platform Peacock has green-lit a scripted series set in the world of the Vin Diesel action epics, as the films celebrate a quarter-century since their debut.
Deadline reports that the new series has installed Mike Daniels (PONIES) and Wolfe Coleman (Shades of Blue) as lead writers and co-showrunners.
Plot details are still to be disclosed, but we do know that the series is eyeing a 2028 launch date – meaning it will likely arrive after the final Fast movie, which is scheduled for March of that year.
"As you all know, we are very precious about these movies but over the last decade, we've realised that the fans have wanted more, they wanted us to expand the legacy characters, their stories," he said.
Diesel was hesitant to make the move until Universal Studios chief Donna Langley took control of NBCUniversal's TV operation, creating a sense of continuity and trust.
"That's when I knew that the integrity of the characters, the international appeal, what makes us all feel like family will be protected in the TV space," added Diesel.
Three other Fast & Furious streaming shows are also in development at Peacock, but whether they all move forward may depend on the performance of this initial effort.
It led Universal to reassess early plans for a two-part finale to the franchise, which has now been condensed into one film – but reuniting the bloated A-list ensemble remains a challenge of cost and scheduling.

Peacock no longer operates in the UK, meaning that the Fast & Furious spin-off series will need to be acquired by an alternative distributor on this side of the Atlantic.
The Fast & Furious TV series is coming soon.
