IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. — When the news broke of an Irondequoit family of four brutally murdered in their basement on Knapp Avenue, everyone had the same question. Who would do such a thing?
Two children — Evangeline Ubaldo-Moreno, 4, and Sebastian Ubaldo-Moreno, 2 — along with the children’s father, Fraime Ubaldo, 30, and mother, Marangely Moreno-Santiago, 26 were killed on Aug. 31, 2024. Then the killers set multiple fires inside the home.
Last week, those two killers, brothers Luis and Julio Soriano, were convicted on all counts by separate juries. The Soriano brothers were cousins with the victims, and prosecutors say one stolen package of drugs is to blame. Police Chief Scott Peters said it was one of the most gruesome scenes he has ever seen in the force.
News10NBC’s Brett Davidsen sat down with the prosecutor on the case, Wayne County DA Christine Callanan for this week’s News10: Beyond The Headlines.
Christine discusses what it took to convince the jury the brothers were guilty, the complexity of one trial with two juries, and the incriminating amount of video evidence in the case.
