ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Here’s your guide to what’s happening around the Rochester area on Friday and this weekend. You can see more upcoming events in our community calendar.

Hilton Apple Festival (Saturday and Sunday)

The 44th annual Hilton Apple Festival kicks off on Saturday, bringing all kinds of apple products, arts vendors, and activities to the village.

The festival is taking place near West Avenue and Henry Street. Once again, there will be an annual auto show, live music across multiple stages, and arts vendors from across the region. There will also be an apple pie contest.

The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. There will be free parking. You can see the full schedule for the festival here.

HBCU Football Classic (Saturday)

Rochester will host the third annual HBCU Football Classic on Saturday, and there will be multiple days of events for local students leading up to the game.

The Rochester Community Sports Complex will host the game on Saturday, where Lincoln University will face Virginia State University. A Battle of the Bands will follow after the game. You can get tickets here.

Before then, there will be the “HBCU Experience” on Thursday. At this event, students in grades 7-10 will be introduced to cultural and educational opportunities that HBCUs offer through music, dancers, entertainment, and engagements with local HBCU alumni.

The day before the game, people are encouraged to wear their favorite HBCU gear, apparel, or colors and share photos on social media. Kickoff for the game on Saturday is set for 1 p.m. Tickets for the game start at $25. Tickets include access to the tailgate, game, and battle of the bands.

Walk to End Alzheimer’s (Saturday)

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s, an annual fundraiser for Alzheimer’s research and support programs, takes place on Saturday at ESL Ballpark.

Organizers say the fundraiser helps to ensure that the Alzheimer’s Association’s programs are free for all who need them. Check-in begins at 9 a.m., and opening ceremonies begin at 10 a.m. The walk starts at 10:15 a.m. You can register for the walk and donate here.

The walk goes along State Street, Commercial Street, and Mill Street. The goal is to raise $400,000. More than 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease.

Deaf Culture Awareness Day (Saturday)

Seneca Park Zoo is celebrating its fourth annual Deaf Culture Awareness Day on Saturday with a full day of American Sign Language- interpreted activities. It’s in collaboration with the Rochester School for the Deaf and RIT’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf

Some activities include insider chats for animals at the zoo and ASL storytime. You can see the full schedule and get tickets here. Activities run from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
