Alabama men’s basketball guard Aden Holloway cleared another legal hurdle in his bid to return to the court.
The senior’s possession of marijuana charge was dismissed Sept. 17 after he completed the Tuscaloosa County District Attorney’s second-chance drug program, AL.com reported Tuesday. Holloway’s three other charges — failure to affix a tax stamp, illegal possession of prescription drugs and the use/possession of drug paraphernalia — were dismissed on May 29 after he agreed to a plea deal and entered the second-chance program.
“Any conversation about whether or not Aden comes back is very premature,” said Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne in May. “Aden still has legal hurdles to overcome. If he works those out, there would still be multiple steps before we would consider a plan to allow him the opportunity to officially rejoin the program. Any discussions are too early.”
Holloway was Alabama’s second-leading scorer in the 2025-26 season with 16.8 points per game but missed the Crimson Tide’s run to the Sweet Sixteen after his March 15 arrest at a residence in the 400 block of 30th Avenue East in Tuscaloosa. Agents with the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force found 2.1 pounds of marijuana in Holloway’s home, narrowly avoiding an additional drug trafficking charge.
“I realize that marijuana is illegal in the state of Alabama and it was entirely wrong of me to have it in my possession,” Holloway wrote in his application to the second-chance program. “I also realize the severity of this offense and that [I am] extremely grateful to be able to grow through it. This was definitely an eye-opening experience for me and I’ve learned the very valuable lesson that bad choices come with bad consequences.”
Alabama men’s basketball will scrimmage inside Coleman Coliseum next Thursday against the Furman Paladins. The Crimson Tide will also face SEC foes Ole Miss and Auburn in preseason exhibitions in Birmingham before beginning the regular season on Nov. 3 against the Sam Houston Bearkats.
