With the calendar about to change, On3’s Chris Low gave out superlatives for the first month. When it came to best coach, Low went with Florida head coach Jon Sumrall, who has the Gators off to a 4-0 start after a big win over Ole Miss.

Florida was 4-8 a year ago, its fourth losing season in the past five years. Sumrall, in his first season in Gainesville, has the Gators 4-0 and ranked No. 8 in this week’s AP poll. It’s the first time Florida has been ranked in the Top 10 since 2021. In other words, Sumrall has pumped the kind of energy into one of college football’s Taj Mahal programs we haven’t seen in a while. The Gators are coming off a 52-28 beatdown of then-No. 4 Ole Miss and have scored more than 40 points in all four of their games. Two of their next three games are on the road against Missouri and Texas, but this team has the look of a contender for a playoff spot.

Florida’s 4-0 start and No. 8 ranking under Sumrall have Gator Nation the most excited it has been in years, but UF has another tough test in Week 5, facing No. 25 Mizzou in Columbia, where the Gators have lost 3 of their last 4.
