While Jesse Plemons and Kirsten Dunst are two of the most successful actors in Hollywood, it seems that only one of their careers impresses their children.
In a September 2026 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Plemons was asked about Dunst joining the cast as Alex in the upcoming Minecraft 2 film. Plemons said he doesn’t think he’ll ever be able to compete with Dunst being a part of the Minecraft universe in the eyes of their children, Ennis, 8, and James, 5.
“I think that is the ultimate in their eyes, and so I think I just have to give up trying to compete with Kirsten. I’ll just ride those coattails. I would have to think really hard on how to beat Minecraft,” said Plemons.
He went on to say that Dunst “really felt compelled to do the movie” because of her sons’ love of the Minecraft video game and film.
“[Dunst] mentioned it in passing and just kind of manifested it and is now the coolest mom on the planet,” said the Oscar-nominated actor during the September 2026 interview.
Before it was announced that Dunst would be in the sequel to Minecraft (2025) in March 2026, she told Entertainment Tonight that she wanted to star in a film from the franchise.
“My son loves it so much. I just want to do something that my kids would love that I was in, and they would die if I was in that movie. Die,” said Dunst happily.

In a 2021 interview with ExtraTV, Dunst and Plemons discussed working together on different projects. Plemons, who met Dunst while co-starring on the second season of Fargo, which premiered in 2015, said his wife is his “favorite actor to work with.”
“It’s just there’s an easy element to it that just makes more fun,” said Plemons, who appeared alongside Dunst in the 2021 movie, The Power of the Dog.
Dunst also said that she and her husband are fearless when it comes to acting.
“We’re good at, like, jumping off the cliff together, you know what I mean? Which is why we got along so well on Fargo. Like, we were both like no ego. Creatively, kind of, we’re soulmates first,” said Dunst during the interview.
