Elton John lifted the curtain at Apple Music Hall in London on Monday night (Sept. 28), performing a one-off show for 600 fans at the brand-new venue at Battersea Power Station.
The performance marked John’s first U.K. show in more than three years, following his headline set at Glastonbury Festival in June 2023, where he concluded his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour. Since then, the legendary singer has made only a handful of live appearances, most recently performing at Brazil’s Rock In Rio festival on Sept. 7.
At the Apple Music Hall, John performed solo at the piano and moved through a selection of career-spanning favourites. The hour-long set included “Rocket Man,” “Bennie And The Jets,” “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me,” “Your Song,” “Tiny Dancer” and “I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues” and was streamed live globally across Apple Music platforms, as well as projected onto the outside of the venue. Guests at the show included TV host Graham Norton, DJ Peggy Gou, BBC 6Music’s Nick Grimshaw, musicians Tom Grennan, Jacob Alon and Nectar Woode, and Apple Music global creative director and Apple Music 1 host Zane Lowe, among others.
The state-of-the-art venue, which announced its opening last week (Sept. 21) has been designed to offer bespoke and intimate shows. It houses a 48-speaker spatial audio system and a customisable 38-foot-wide stage, and also features two dedicated recording and mix studios plus a purpose-built broadcast control room designed to support content capture.
Apple officially opened its London headquarters at the iconic Battersea Power Station in 2022, with the space also incorporating studios for Apple Music Radio’s London-based hosts.

What better way to celebrate this relationship than a new music venue where we get to experience amazing music in an amazing space and share it with the world.”
John’s opening night gig launches the venue’s first run of concerts, with Baby Keem scheduled for Oct. 2, Skye Newman on Oct. 7, Troye Sivan on Oct. 13, Arlo Parks on Oct. 22 and Burna Boy on Oct. 29.
