Tax exemption workshop
The City of Rochester is hosting another workshop on Tuesday for homeowners 65 or older to learn how they may qualify for property tax savings.
People at the workshop will learn about the city’s Senior Citizen Tax Exemption and other tax relief programs. You can get one-on-one assistance, ask questions about eligibility, and learn what documents are needed to apply. Staff will also help people determine which benefits they may qualify for.
The workshop is happening from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the atrium of Rochester City Hall on Church Street. The first one took place earlier this month at the Rochester Community Sports Complex. To qualify for the city’s Senior Citizen Tax Exemption, applicants must meet the following:
Be at least 65 years old by Dec. 31, 2027. For a jointly owned property, at least one spouse or sibling owner must meet the age requirement. Own and occupy the property as their primary residence. Rush-Henrietta school board meeting
Rush-Henrietta Central School District leaders are asking families to join the discussion on school safety after fights broke out inside the senior high school last week, putting the school on lockdown.
The Board of Education meeting is happening at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Parker Administration Building. You can attend in-person or livestream the meeting here. The district will also host a Safety Forum at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the senior high school, which you can livestream here.
On Monday, students and parents at Rush Henrietta Senior High School walked out during the final period to protest recent fights in the district and call for change. Many at the walkout said they don’t believe there are enough consequences for students involved in fights, and this isn’t how they want their school represented.

Organizers are set to share details on Tuesday about the 8th annual Roc Holiday Village. The holiday village is set to open on Black Friday (Friday, Nov. 27) at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park.
In the past, the free holiday village has featured ice skating, a shopping village, fire pits, cultural celebrations, food and drinks, visits with Santa, live music, and more in downtown Rochester. Last year, the village had more than 200,000 visitors.
This year’s festival will once again run for 16 days. Here are this year’s dates:
