Opta Analyst’s FCS football coverage includes weekly national player and team honors during the regular season, leading into Stats Perform’s season-ending awards, now in their 40th year.
Montana’s Eli Gillman, Harvard’s Xaden Benson, Portland State’s Joshua Hossmann Lees and Alabama A&M’s Byron Perrilliat were selected on Monday as the Stats Perform FCS National Players of the Week for Week 4 college football games.
In addition, the St. Thomas Tommies were named the Stats Perform FCS National Team of the Week.

FCS National Offensive Player of the Week
Eli Gillman, Montana, RB, R-Sr., 6-0, 215
Gillman set Montana’s single-game record with 275 rushing yards and scored on four runs to become the Big Sky Conference’s all-time leader in rushing touchdowns (60) in the Grizzlies’ 62-22 rout of No. 10 UC Davis. He averaged 10.6 yards on 26 carries, which included a 58-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. That was Gillman’s 13th overall TD this season – the FCS high.

FCS National Defensive Player of the Week
Xaden Benson, Harvard, DB, Jr., 6-0, 185
Benson gobbled up four takeaways to help Harvard hold off Brown 14-10 in the season’s first Ivy League game. He tied the school record with three interceptions, including one at his team’s 10-yard line, and recovered a muffed punt on special teams. His final two takeaways occurred in the fourth quarter as the Crimson protected their four-point lead. He also had four tackles.

FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week
Joshua Hossmann Lees, Portland State, PK, Jr., 6-1, 185
Hossmann Lees’s 41-yard field goal as time expired completed a 14-point performance and lifted Portland State past Weber State 44-41 in the Big Sky. In helping coach Chris Fisk earn his first win with the Vikings, Hossmann Lees was 3 of 3 on field goals and 5 of 5 on extra points. He also had six of his eight kickoffs go for touchbacks.

FCS National Freshman Player of the Week
Byron Perrilliat, Alabama A&M, RB, Fr., 5-11, 182
Perrilliat carried the ball 16 times for 223 yards and two touchdowns as Alabama A&M pulled away from Florida A&M 40-21 in its SWAC opener. The Rattlers had closed within 23-21 of AAMU before Perrilliat scored from 15 and 22 yards out in the fourth quarter. He averaged nearly 14 yards per carry, with his rushing yards the most by a Bulldogs player since 2019.

FCS National Team of the Week
St. Thomas (50-17 over San Diego)
Quarterback Nick Peipert accounted for five touchdowns (three passing, two rushing) and St. Thomas (4-1) handed the Pioneer Football League preseason favorite its largest league defeat since 2000. Coach Glenn Caruso’s Tommies averaged 10.3 yards per offensive play and Kyle Winchester scored on a 38-yard pick-six.
