September 27th – October 1st Parakiore Recreation and Sport Centre, Christchurch, New Zealand SCM (25m) Meet Central ResultsThe 2026 New Zealand Short Course Swimming Championships kicked off today in Christchurch, with a trio of age records going down during the first finals session.
The women’s 100m backstroke saw Coast Swimming Club’s Milan Glintmeyer stop the clock at a time of 57.35 to register a new NZL age benchmark for 18-year-olds.
Glintmeyer split 13.49/14.39/14.56/14.91 to get the job done, leading a threesome of swimmers who cleared the 1:00 threshold.
Joining her under the barrier were Amber George and Savannah-Eve Martin, who cleaned up the minor medals in respective efforts of 58.26 and 58.40.
As for Glintmeyer, the teen also fired off a new age record for 18-year-olds en route to doubling up with gold in the women’s 100m IM.
Glintmeyer got to the wall in 1:01.02 (12.63/14.69/18.99/14.71) for a new lifetime best.
Zyleika Pratt-Smith registered 1:01.80 as runner-up, with Alyssa Lawson also landing on the podium in 1:02.59, good enough for bronze.
On the men’s side, it was youngster William Tye who scored a new record, setting the standard on his way to winning the 1500m free.
Tye, just 15 years of age, punched a result of 15:26.42 to lead the pack.
