ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Teachers Association filed an improper practice charge against the Rochester City School District.
A labor walk took place Saturday morning at the NYSUT building on North Union Street at 9:30.
Gov. Kathy Hochul was expected to attend the event, but didn’t because of the weather emergency downstate.
The teachers’ contract expired June 30. The union said the district had been unresponsive to its proposals to add needed services for students, lower class sizes and make schools safer.

Statement
RTA President Adam Urbanski gave a statement about the practice charge, saying:
“The RTA is filing an Improper Practice charge with the NYS Public Employment Board against the District to challenge the legitimacy of the email notification from Christopher Miller, Chief of RCSD’s Human Capital, sent earlier today to all our members. The District’s unilateral action, requiring on the form that your physician “State the nature and extent of illness” represents a violation of HIPPA law’s privacy provisions. And the very fact that the District is requiring a Certificate of Personal Illness (CPI) on Superintendent’s Conference Days is telling. It is yet another example of distrust of teachers and denial about the lack of relevancy and lack of quality of the District-mandated PDs.
“We will keep you informed about any developments related to this issue.”
