Here are my Week 4 picks as SEC play begins to heat up.
No. 1 Texas at No. 14 Tennessee: Neyland Stadium, 11 a.m. CT on ABC
On Saturday, Texas star quarterback Arch Manning will enter Neyland Stadium, where his uncle, Peyton Manning, went 22-2 across his three-and-a-half seasons as Tennessee’s starter.
Arch Manning has struggled on the road as the Longhorns’ starter thus far, posting a 2-3 record through his first five road starts. Those two wins were far from convincing, however, as Texas scraped away wins at Kentucky and Mississippi State.
I expect a Neyland crowd, which will reportedly contain President Donald Trump, to hamper the Longhorns’ offense as the Volunteers jump on Texas early, similarly to how they did Georgia last September before the Bulldogs mounted a comeback and stunned Rocky Top.
“We’re going into what I would probably consider the loudest stadium in the country in Neyland Stadium,” Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said.
Freshman quarterback Faizon Brandon has yet to throw an interception in his college career, and after a bye week, it is possible the former 5-star has his best game yet against the Longhorns. I expect Texas’ defense to give Brandon problems as the game progresses and force some key mistakes that swing the game in the Longhorns’ favor.
I am rolling with Arch Manning to win his first road game against a ranked opponent as Texas survives Rocky Top with a fourth-quarter comeback.
Prediction: No. 1 Texas 27, No. 14 Tennessee 23
No. 4 Ole Miss at No. 21 Florida: Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, 2:30 p.m. CT on ABC
Rebels fans and players alike poured their all into last weekend’s 32-24 win over former coach Lane Kiffin and LSU, but will need to stay razor-focused as they head south to the Swamp.
If Ole Miss is to drop a game before its trip to Austin to face No. 1 Texas, it very well could be this one, given the emotions of last Saturday’s victory. Las Vegas sportsbooks seem to think so, too, as the Gators enter this game a 3.5-point favorite despite Ole Miss’s No. 4 ranking in the AP Top 25.
“Who has us favored against these guys?” Florida head coach John Sumrall said.
Florida ran all over Auburn’s defense with 243 yards on the ground. Of those 243 yards, 162 came from star running back Jadan Baugh, who found the end zone three times and put the game on ice on a 53-yard score on fourth down.
The Rebels will hope their star running back, Kewan Lacy, is available after suffering a shoulder injury against LSU. Head coach Pete Golding said Tuesday that Lacy would be a “game-time decision.
With Lacy’s status in the air, I am taking the Gators and Baugh to pick up another statement win over the Rebels, as they did in 2024.
Prediction: No. 21 Florida 34, No. 4 Ole Miss 31
South Carolina at No. 8 Alabama: Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium, 6 p.m. on ESPN
The Gamecocks have nearly upset the Crimson Tide in back-to-back years. If it weren’t for costly turnovers from quarterback LaNorris Sellers in the dying embers of both games, those almost-upsets may have become reality.
“This week against South Carolina, it’s going to be much like it was the last couple years,” said Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer Wednesday on the SEC Coaches Teleconference. “A physical game, a game that you got to be ready to play and be at your best. [South Carolina head] coach [Shane] Beamer’s always going to have his team ready to go.”
Like DeBoer, I predict this game ends up a close one yet again, with mounting pressure placed on Beamer after a 4-8 season in 2025 and a tough 41-34 loss to Mississippi State in his team’s SEC opener this season, in which the Gamecocks led 16-0 in the second quarter.
Sellers and his dual-threat abilities have hampered Crimson Tide defensive coordinator Kane Wommack’s unit in both contests. I expect the junior to continue that trend after Wommack’s defense struggled again with a dual-threat signal-caller in Florida State’s Ashton Daniels, who threw for 377 yards and was responsible for four total touchdowns.
Still, I believe the Crimson Tide’s rebuilt front seven will trouble the Gamecocks’ offensive line enough to help Alabama pull away in the fourth quarter with a two-score lead and move to 4-0 on the season. I expect the Crimson Tide’s running game to continue its strong start to the season while quarterback Keelon Russell continues to flash moments of brilliance.
Prediction: No. 8 Alabama 38, South Carolina 29
