ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Over $4 million will be going to the Finger Lakes region for a program that provides year-round job opportunities to at-risk and low-income youth.
Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Wednesday that $42 million will be going towards the state’s Youth Employment Program. Hochul says this program, which launched in 2024, plays an important role in the state’s Gun Involved Violence Elimination (GIVE) initiative.
The funding is expected to provide paid work and training opportunities for at least 2,500 low-income youth across the state, including in the Finger Lakes. The funding will be distributed by the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance.
According to Hochul, in the first two years of the program, participants have worked in school districts, libraries, restaurants, camps/childcare programs and various community organizations.
The 2026-27 Youth Employment Program will run from Sept. 1, 2026, to June 30, 2027. To be eligible for the program, you must be between the ages of 14 and 20 and have a household income below 200% of the federal poverty level, which varies by household size.
