Our family is saddened to say that Mr. Bobby Lee Holland, age 94 of Hartsville, TN passed away Sunday, September 20, 2026 at his home from kidney failure.
He was born September 17, 1932 to Simon and Lillie Dishon Holland in Depew, Oklahoma the youngest of six children. In addition to his Parents, he was preceded in death by his Siblings: Geneva Hanson, Victor Holland, Hubert Holland, Ray Holland and Betty Stidham; his of Wife of 66 years, Geneva Holland who preceded him in death in October 2021; his beloved Grandson, Jared Lee Holland and Great Granddaughter, Raylee Grace Jones.
He is survived by 3 Children; Sons, Darrell (Angela) Holland, Gary (JoAnn) Holland and Daughter, Shelly (Roger) Brawner; 9 Grandchildren, Tabitha (Shawn) Holland Gregory, Kaleb (Kala) Holland, Tiffany (Jerod) Holland McFarland, Brittany (Julian Dan) Jones, Chelsea (Alex) Gibbs, Craig Brown, Mitch (Lacy) Gregory, Kyle (Stacey) Gregory and Shelby (E.J.) Perry; 20 Great Grandchildren, Tessa, Taryn, Trista Gregory, Lincoln and Aiden McFarland, Kolton Holland, Tatum Brown, Rylee Jones, Harper Neal, Eli, Ava and Remi Gibbs, Huck, India, Ike Gregory, Luke, Lilly, Livy Gregory, Elli and Emmi Perry and a host of Nieces, Nephews and their Families.
Mr. Holland was born in Oklahoma and his family moved to California when he was a young teenager. At 20, he was drafted into the U.S. Military and served in Germany from 1951 to 1955 during the Korean War. He served his Country with pride and honor and received an Honorable Discharge. He met his Wife, Geneva Mattox in Nashville, TN while on leave from Fort Campbell, KY. After his discharge they were married in February 1955 on a rainy day in Ashland City, TN. They moved to Fresno, CA and lived for several years until they re-located back to Tennessee.
Bob and Geneva raised their three Children and started their farming career in 1964 in Dixon Springs, TN until they moved their family to Hartsville in 1977. They had bought several farms here in the area and later farmed the land he owns now on Oldham Road. He has raised tobacco, corn, hogs, goats, game chickens and still had several head of cattle. He even had Emu’s for a short period of time. He still checked on his cows and fed hay up until February of this year. He was a strong-willed, determined man who loved the farm life a lot better than the cotton compress work he did while he lived in California. He and the family irrigated and sprayed tobacco for the public for almost 25 years. He never met a stranger in his lifetime. Later he may not always remember your name but he knew who you were and would always strike up a conversation. You could sit with him for hours or days and he could tell you so many life stories and about his adventures. He was a very intelligent man with much more common sense than most. He learned from life experiences and he had stories to go along with them. He gave great advice and helped anyone that needed a helping hand. There was not much he could not do. He left a lasting impression larger than life. He told us many times he had lived a good long life. He had done things he wanted and traveled the world and had been blessed with pretty good health along the way. He loved his wife and family and he had hoped he had been a good example and would be remembered by many as a good man.
He enjoyed all his family and loved the Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. Everyone called him Big Daddy. He will be greatly missed by so many and all will cherish his memory for generations. He and Geneva had a lot of family to carry on the legacy.
Graveside services will be held at Dixon Springs Cemetery at 4 PM Thursday, September 24, 2026 conducted by Bro. Jack McCall. Visitation with the family will be from 4 PM to 8 PM Wednesday, September 23, 2026 at Anthony Funeral Home.
