Saturday Night Live star Ashley Padilla is known for her buttoned-up roles on the hit NBC sketch comedy series. However, Padilla recently revealed she wasn’t exactly the most strait-laced growing up.
During an appearance on the September 22 episode of Amy Poehler‘s podcast, Good Hang, Padilla revealed she was an “awful” student in high school, which surprised the Parks and Recreation star.
“I’m shocked. You’re so smart,” said Poehler to Padilla.
Padilla then explained that she simply wasn’t interested in the subjects being taught. She also clarified that not only did she not do so well academically, but she was also a “bad girl” in her youth. With some encouragement from Poehler, Padilla revealed that she was arrested when she was 16 years old after a party.
“I was like running from a party, but there had been a hit-and-run,” explained Padilla, who joined SNL during its 50th season in 2024.
Padilla then shared that police officers found her hiding in a rose bush, where she had been for about four hours.
“When they pulled me out, I said, and they wrote this down, it was in the police report, I said, ‘It’s about time you motherf****s caught me,'” said Padilla with a laugh, delighting Poehler.
The 33-year-old comedian also shared that she “was charged with obstruction of justice and resisting arrest.” She said, however, because she was just 16 at the time, she was given the option to have the arrest “removed from [her] record” if she attended “court-ordered therapy with [her] mother.”
Padilla went on to say that she and her mother did end up going to the court-ordered therapy. According to Padilla, her mother declined to participate in the session’s art therapy portion.
“She’s sitting there, and the therapist was like, ‘I want you guys to draw for me.’ And my mom was like, ‘No.’ And she was like, ‘Okay.’ And I remember she’s, like, flipping through a magazine, like, ‘I’m not doing that,'” said Padilla while recording the Good Hang podcast episode.
