NEW YORK, N.Y. — New York is rolling out the next phase of the Responsible AI Safety and Education (RAISE) Act.
It will require major AI developers to begin registering with the state starting in November. It also requires large AI developers to publish safety and transparency frameworks, assess catastrophic risks and file regular reports with the state.
Gov. Kathy Hochul says she’s looking at more ways to expand AI safety in the coming months, and is calling on federal and world leaders to do the same.
“When companies are building some of the most powerful technology in the world, people deserve to know what they’re doing to keep it safe, and those companies should be held accountable when things go wrong,” said Hochul in a press release. “As this technology continues to evolve, I’ll continue working on additional steps to protect New Yorkers.”
Starting in January, large frontier AI developers will have to report critical safety incidents to the state within 72 hours.
