ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A 35-year-old man has been convicted by a Monroe County jury for shooting and killing a man in June 2025.
Edison Estremera-Cohen was convicted of two counts of murder in the second degree, robbery, and four counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
Rochester Police found 30-year-old David Vazquez dead with gunshot wounds at a vacant home on Oscar Street on June 22, 2025.
According to prosecutors, Estremera-Cohen was seen stealing money from Vazquez, then shot him and fled on his bike.
Officers quickly found Estremera-Cohen, who dropped the bike and fled from officers, where a foot chase began. Police say during this chase, Estremera-Cohen fired at officers. Officers then returned fire, wounding Estremera-Cohen.
Estremera-Cohen was originally charged with attempted murder of a police officer, but the jury found him not guilty of that charge, according to the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office.
His sentencing is set for Nov. 13.
