Chicago Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong is having one of the best seasons in team history, and he could join some elite company this week.
Crow-Armstrong is considered a strong favorite to win National League MVP honors thanks to his incredible season, and with six games left to go, he’s in prime position to do things no Cubs player has achieved in decades.
We’ll start out with Wins Above Replacement (WAR), a statistic Crow-Armstrong is lapping the field in this season. He currently leads the league in WAR with a 9.6, the fifth-best among Cubs players all-time according to Baseball Reference.

Crow-Armstrong has already set the Cubs record for most home runs by a left-handed player, and could make even more history if he can fend off Schwarber for the league lead in that category.
Sosa also is the last Cubs player to have led the majors in runs scored when he racked up 146 during the 2001 season. Crow-Armstrong is the current leader in that category with 118, so he could be the first Cub in a quarter-century to achieve that feat.
In that 2001 season, Sosa led Major League Baseball with 160 RBI’s, and he is the last Cubs player to lead the league in that category. Crow-Armstrong currently sits at 107 RBI’s on the season, just four behind Alec Burleson of the St. Louis Cardinals for the league lead in that category.
Another category PCA leads baseball in is total bases, with 351 so far on the season. The last Cubs player to lead MLB in that category was Derrek Lee, who racked up 393 total bases in the 2005 season.
Finally, Crow-Armstrong has 38 stolen bases. He is trying to become the first Cubs player to ever hit 40 or more home runs and steal 40 or more bases in the same season.
Crow-Armstrong and the Cubs will be back in action at Wrigley Field on Tuesday night when they face the Miami Marlins, with first pitch set for 6:40 p.m.
