CHAMPION — Patricia L. Dawson, formerly of Brookfield, entered into eternal rest Friday, Sept. 18, 2026, at Windsor House in Champion.
Born Dec. 3, 1941, in Piney Fork, Patty is the daughter of Joseph and Mary Barnas Krulcik.
Devoting 24 years of her life to Trumbull County Job & Family Services, Patty worked as a customer service representative, embracing every opportunity to gently educate and encourage those in need. Her work family was precious to her and often her backbone, having formed lifelong friendships from both the Warren and Youngstown offices. Patty was also a licensed insurance agent.
Above all, Patty was a woman of the deepest faith and love of the Roman Catholic Church. Patty was a devoted member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica in Youngstown, active in the Apostolate of Perpetual Adoration and St. Monica’s Guild. She proudly and respectfully served as a Eucharistic minister. Patty and her husband Moe served for decades as Eucharistic ministers and marriage ministry at their previous church, St. James Roman Catholic Church in Warren. She was a true woman of God who carried and revealed her faith into her every breath, every thought, every word and deed, quietly teaching His lessons through the way she lived, loved, and cared for others.
Patty held a special passion in her glorious heart for the poor and the suffering. Patty had a beautiful mind and an immense lifelong love of learning. She challenged herself daily by reciting scripture from memory, devouring home and garden magazines, and cuddling up reading, her most enjoyable pastime, always telling everyone “we are never alone when we have a book.” Patty could often be found perusing through the dictionary in search of new words. Patty loved words, often choosing new words simply to further educate herself. She was modest and traditional, treasured handwritten cards and notes, and believed in the beauty of thoughtful, personal gestures. She was a truly caring and classy lady, with an extraordinary eye for beauty.
Patty poured her heart and soul into her home and had a gift for creating a space that was warm, beautiful, and cozy. She relished decorating and took great pride in every detail especially hosting family and friends, always taking it to the next level with matching table settings, carefully chosen decor, beautiful candles, and all the little touches that made everyone feel welcome and loved. She also enjoyed cooking, gardening, music, dancing — especially polka — garage sales, traveling, entertaining and crafting.
Of all the things she accomplished throughout her life, her greatest accomplishment and greatest blessing was her family. Patty treasured the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren baking, playing, laughing, crafting, Sunday dinners, and enjoying the beauty of her land were among the moments she cherished most. They were the light of her life. Grandma poured her heart into creating stunning memories and the most delicious meals that will be treasured for generations.
Patty had a way of making people feel loved, cared for, and special. Whoever encountered her knew almost immediately that she was someone extraordinary — a true angel, one in a million. Her grace, kindness, faith, wisdom, and love left an impression on all fortunate enough to know her.
Precious memories of Patty will live on through her adoring daughter, Paula Yauger of Warren; three grandchildren, Zachary (Tara) Yauger of Warren, Taylor Yauger of Warren and Alissa (Cory) Floyd of Brookfield; and great-grandchildren, Ashton, Macy, Sadie, Mia, Monroe and Brody. She is also survived by her brother, Edward J. (Janey) Krulcik of Valley City; her brother-in-law, Raymond Zifzal of North Royalton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins who loved and adored her and will remember her fondly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Douglas A. Dawson of Niles; her sisters, Ann Grayzar of Dillonvale and Leona Zifzal of North Royalton; and her beloved husband of 52 years, Dwight A. “Moe” Dawson, whom she married on Nov. 28, 1964, and who passed away on Nov. 30, 2016.
Moe was the love of her life. They had the most loving, respected marriage and were the epitome of soulmates. Patty’s greatest legacy was the love she gave so freely – to her family, her friends, her faith, and her home. She created a life filled with beauty, tradition, learning, laughter, and love. Though her absence leaves an immeasurable space in the hearts of those who loved her, her lessons, traditions, and memories will continue to live on through the family she cherished above all else.
Calling hours are 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2026, at Staton-Borowski Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2026, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica, 343 Via Mount Carmel, Youngstown, with The Very Rev. Msgr. John Zuraw officiating.
All who knew and loved Patty are welcome to attend and honor her magnificent life.
Interment will follow in Tod Homestead Cemetery.
