A suspect was charged in connection with a shooting that left one person dead and a second seriously injured earlier this year in the Humboldt Park neighborhood, police said.
Brandon Sims, 31, of Chicago, was arrested by the Area 5 Homicide Support Team on Tuesday and identified as the suspect who shot two men along North Washtenaw Avenue near West North Avenue in July.
The man who died was identified as Jose Juan Gomez by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Sims was charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery/discharge of a firearm and possession of a firearm/repeat felony offense.
At a detention hearing on Thursday, a judge denied Sims pretrial release.
Police said the 31-year-old allegedly shot the two men on July 11 while hey were standing outside. Gomez man was shot in the chest and taken to an area hospital, where he died.
The second victim, a 33-year-old man, sustained serious injuries.
