Marvin Odell Estes, better known as Odell, was born on Monday, May 13th, 1940, in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, to the late Lloyd James and Mattie (Bay) Estes, and passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 17th, 2026, in Carthage, Tennessee, at the age of 86.

The Funeral Service, conducted by Bro. Van Richmond, will be held in the chapel of Sellars Funeral Home at Mt. Juliet on Tuesday, September 22nd, 2026, at 02:00 p.m. Interment will follow the service in Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Monday, September 21st from 04:00 p.m. – 08:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, September 22nd from 11:00 a.m. until time of service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife of 53 years, Bessie Marie Estes; siblings, James Estes, Gene Estes, Robert Estes, Mack Estes, Lawrence Estes, Sue Romines, and Earlene King.

He is survived by son, Marvin Estes and wife, Lisa; grandson, Marvin Estes, Jr., and wife, Melissa; granddaughter, Melissa Estes; great-grandchildren, Alexus Robinson and husband, Dustin, and Braydon Lane and wife, Presley; great-great-grandchildren, Lilia Robinson, Leila Robinson, Leah Robinson, Lettie Robinson, Peyton Thompson, and Jaxson Thompson.

Mr. Estes was raised on a farm in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, where he learned the values of hard work, dedication, and family. In 1958, he began his career with Genesco, where he proudly made Johnston & Murphy shoes and faithfully served the company for 44 years before retiring. Outside of work, Odell enjoyed cheering on his beloved University of Tennessee Volunteers and Atlanta Braves, but some of his favorite moments were spent fishing and simply being out on the water. He will be remembered for the life he built, the work he dedicated himself to, and the simple pleasures that brought him joy throughout the years.

The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to the nurses and staff of Smith County Health & Rehabilitation for the compassionate love and care they provided to Odell and his family during his stay. A special thank you is extended to Brittany and Mary for their kindness, dedication, and the exceptional care they gave to Odell and his loved ones. Their compassion and support will forever be appreciated by his family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, an organization that held a special place in Odell’s heart.
