You may qualify to get a chunk of a $2.5 billion settlement with Amazon — and the payouts are now even higher than before.
The payouts stem from a settlement approved in 2025 that alleged online retail giant tricked customers into signing up for its Prime memberships and made it difficult for them to cancel after doing so. As part of the suit, $1.5 billion was ordered to be paid back to customers who were unintentionally enrolled in Prime or were deterred from canceling their subscriptions.
Some Amazon Prime users got automatic refunds as part of a first payout phase in 2025. A second round of payouts, which required consumers to file claims, began in September of 2026.
Now, those amounts have increased — claims are no longer necessary.
According to the Federal Trade Commission, a revised court order has expanded who is eligible for Amazon refunds, which will now be paid automatically.
“All future payments will be distributed automatically, eliminating the need for consumers to submit claims or additional paperwork to Amazon,” the FTC said in a release.
Under the revised order, claim forms are no longer necessary, the FTC said. Additional customers will automatically receive refund payments of up to $51 beginning Oct. 1 via Venmo, PayPal or mailed check.
If not enough customers accept the payments, additional refunds will go out, the FTC said, and those will be higher.
“If consumer-accepted payments do not reach the required threshold by February 2027, Amazon will provide additional automatic payments to consumers who previously received refunds under the settlement,” the release said. “As part of the revised order, consumers who have accepted payments will be eligible to receive an additional $149, for a total of $200.
According to officials, the final round of additional automatic payments would start April 2027.
