BATAVIA, N.Y. — One man is dead and another charged with murder and other crimes at the Hope Haven Center on Bank Street in Batavia.
Batavia Police, shortly before midnight Wednesday night, received a call from Hope Haven, an addiction-recovery in-patient rehabilitation center, about a possible homicide involving two of its residents. Police found a 63-year-old man who had serious traumatic injuries. He died of these injuries despite the work of Batavia firefighters and Mercy EMC.
Police took Frederick Scott, 53, into custody without incident. He is charged with second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was arraigned Thursday in City Court and is being held without bail, to reappear in court Oct. 6.
Police said the homicide remains under investigation and they would have no further comment at this tim.
