Harmful algae bloom advisory issued for Conesus Lake in Livingston County ...Middle East

News by : (News10NBC) -

LIVINGSTON COUNTY, N.Y. — The Livingston County Department of Health issued a Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) advisory for Conesus Lake on Thursday.

The department says there’s a lake-wide bloom, and it’s seen at multiple locations along the perimeter of the lake shore and extending into the open water.

Wind direction and other environmental conditions cause the spread of algae blooms.

The department asks that people and animals should keep out of the water where suspected blooms are growing.

The HABs may produce toxins that cause diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting, skin, eye, or throat irritation, and allergic reactions or breathing difficulties.

Additional information

More information about the algal blooms can be found on the New York State Department of Health website, or on the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation website.

For more information, or to report a HAB, contact the Department of Health at 585-243-7280 or email the Watershed Inspector at donmaryanski@livingstoncountyny.gov
